I can't fully explain it, but I love Erik Mark Sandberg's hairy portrait figures. Maybe it's the neon hues and loud graphic '80's print clothing reminiscent of my childhood. Maybe it's because I see an allure underneath the thick coat of fur and glitter. As I continue to ponder my fascination with Sandberg and his shaggy beings, I encourage you to check out his latest exhibition at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Get Pretty Now. The artists' second solo show at the gallery includes mixed media paintings, sculpture and works on paper.
“My work investigates the psychological effects of trying to achieve smoke and mirror standards of beauty, standards that run in opposition to contemporary mass-consumed food advertising.” ~ Erik Mark Sandberg
Enjoy the photos below courtesy of Jonathan LeVine Gallery, however do make an effort to view the works in person. Show runs until February 19th.
