On display at THIS Gallery is contemporary artist Lisa Solberg's current exhibit entitled 'Stalker'. Known for visceral and emotionally charged paintings that push the comfort levels of her audience, Solberg takes a break from the canvas to work with massive panels of Celotex for this show. Inspired by Rudolf Stingel's 2007 installation at the Whitney, Solberg thinks silver and uses reflective insulation panels along with cutting techniques to create a world of poetic, bold and thoughtful imagery focused on the sublime.
Each panel of metallic silver conveys raw emotion as it depicts images of hybrid beasts, cryptic symbols and text such as 'All the Tears with all the Glory'. Solberg has created a space filled with curiosity while evoking sentiments of intimate public spaces (as if in a bathroom stall). The result is an aesthetic that is simultaneously primitive and haunting.
'Stalker' is on view until July 13th with a closing party on Saturday, July 14th from 12pm to 10pm. Be sure to check out this impressive installation in person.
