Sneak Peek: Dina Goldstein "U.S. Debut" @ CHG Circa

May 17th will mark the opening of Dina Goldstein's new series of work entitled "U.S. Debut" at CHG Circa. The pop surrealist photographer's solo exhibition will reflect her heavy inspiration from "fellow pop surrealist Ron English and the hyperreal documentary photo technique of Dorothea Lange". Goldstein's work serves as a contemporary statement of her 21st century experience. Her subjects include Disney princesses and even Barbie and Ken. Rather than showing their usual portrayal of romance and happiness, she captures what happens after the happily ever after fades away. These honest views destroy the utter idea of fantasy and unveil an unexpected reality. “For me, photography is intended not to produce an esthetic that echoes current beauty standards,” explains Goldstein, “but to evoke and wrest feelings of shame, anger, shock and empathy from the observer so as to inspire insight into the human condition. I have always felt that my experience as a documentary photographer complements my conceptual photography as they inform each other technically and creatively. From my more candid work, I have learned that spontaneity and a lack of control are sources of inspiration.”

Dina Goldstein's "U.S. Debut" is a must-see show. Take a look at a few images courtesy of the gallery.
