Hi.

Welcome to the latest art to emerge from the contemporary visionaries as seen through the eyes of Platinum Cheese.

Greg "Craola" Simkins @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

A horde of Greg "Craola" Simkins fans gathered last Saturday night at Merry Karnowsky Gallery, to be wowed by his current solo show "Good Knight". The anticipation built up while waiting to get in, and once inside, a beautiful array of Simkins' colorful paintings led viewers from one breath-taking piece to the next. As the crowd of enthusiasts moved further into the gallery, one of the spectacles of the night quickly became watching the artist interact with his loyal fans in front of the largest piece in the collection. Simkins’ richly-colored acrylic paintings elegantly grace the gallery, while his charcoal drawings effortlessly pop against the white walls they hang from. From every gleaming eye to every creature lurking within a sea of electric fluid color, Simkins proves that every miniscule detail is just as important as the larger aspects in his paintings. Building around his signature character, the Good Knight, Simkins creates an imaginative hierarchical society inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. Every character embodies a regal energy transmitted through remarkable expressive detail. The artist plays on the phrase “good night”, referring to a literal character, a heroic protagonist that resides within a dark whimsical world, rather than an endearing farewell used to send someone off into a well-wished sleep.

Very reminiscent to the Wonderland young Alice found herself in, Simkins encourages viewers of all ages to delve into his paintings and find themselves down the rabbit hole too. “Good Knight” will run through June 14th. Embark on this adventure of a show while you still can. Enjoy a few pictures of the opening night below.
