Sneak Peek: Niels Shoe Meulman " The  Unearthly  Paintings" @ White Walls Gallery

Amsterdam-based Calligraffiti artist Niels Shoe Meulman, will be returning to White Walls Gallery on Saturday night for his third solo exhibition entitled "The Unearthly Paintings". In this latest body of work, Muelman bares his philosophical reflection on existence, outer space, and science. His typographical paintings resemble the night sky, dark and vast, inhabited by the mysterious unknown. Vibrant colors glide across a splattered black background, spelling out messages such as "bang", "keep it unreal", and "mind over anti matter". Muelman's winding brush strokes elegantly contrast the explosive spontaneity behind them. To think how his process involves a moment of intentional paint splatter, followed by controlled brush strokes, is reminiscent of Jackson Pollock's paintings, but of course with a modern graffiti twist. The artist remains true to his signature technique with a medieval style of "Calligraffiti". He dabs into an innovative way of transforming his non-linear word order into abstract representations.

The artist comments: “Art, science and religion have a common origin; the unknown. My latest pieces touch on  subjects  like ‘anti- knowledge' and 'the great doubt.' This exhibition is an exploration to find mysticism in science. Particle accelerators are modern cathedrals for people who believe in quantum  mechanics. With every discovery, more questions arise. Scientific findings of the last decades are more fantastic than all of the fables in religious books put together.”

"The Unearthly Paintings" explores the idea of connecting the dots on our journey to logic. Muelman connects observation and reality through his artistic expression. Also part of this exhibition will be a series of works on paper marking the artists 35th year anniversary. Make sure to check out the opening night to view these works in person, but for now, take a look at some studio shots and preview images of Niels Shoe Muelman's work by Adele Renault.
